Whether the main peptide in the vial has the expected mass, so it is the peptide on the label and not a different or missing one.
it cannot tell you
- How pure the peptide is, or how much is in the vial.
- Impurities with the same mass as the peptide, such as D-amino-acid isomers. Purity still needs HPLC.

Liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. We compare the measured mass of the main peptide with its expected mass.
