short answer
In a peptide group test, buyers of one batch share a single lab order. One organiser agrees the tests, collects each member's share, picks vials at random from several kits, numbers them, ships them to the lab and shares the report so every member can check it. Order content in mg with identity and purity, and confirm first which lab's results the seller accepts.
What a peptide group test is
A peptide group test is one lab order paid for by several buyers of the same batch. One person, the organiser, runs it. Members split the lab fee, the organiser sends a few vials from the batch, and everyone gets the same report. Group buys often fold testing into the price of each kit (pepinstep).
The report tells the group what was in the vials the lab received. It is good evidence about the batch when the vials were picked at random from several kits. It is weak evidence when one member sent one vial of their choice.
Where peptide testing groups organise: Telegram, Discord and Reddit
Most peptide testing groups run in Telegram channels and Discord servers. Reddit peptide communities are where many members meet, but moderator notices there ban naming sellers and linking to outside platforms, so the planning moves to chat apps (r/Peptidesource).
A few sites now handle the money and the paperwork:
| Route | How money is handled | Lab | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Informal group on Telegram or Discord | The organiser collects shares by payment app or crypto | The organiser’s choice | pepinstep |
| Group Test Hub | Card payments through alias-only accounts; a join deposit counts toward your share | Partner labs: Janoshik, Vanguard, Freedom Diagnostics | grouptesthub.com |
| BatchGuild | Credits held until the test is fully funded; full refund if the group does not fill | The organiser picks from the site’s list | batchguild.com |
| Peptide Test group portal | A group ID, a list of payments and a balance view | Fixed by the service | peptidetest.com |
The steps below apply whichever route you use.
Step 1: Agree on one batch and one question
Every vial in the test must come from the same lot. Before anyone ships, write down the lot number, the label claim and the cap colour. Treat a different cap colour as a different batch.
Then agree what the group wants to know. “Is it the right peptide?” needs identity. “Is it under-filled?” needs content in mg. “How much of it is the target peptide?” needs purity. Each question has its own test.
Step 2: Choose the tests for the peptide group test
| Question | Test | Sample note |
|---|---|---|
| Is it the peptide on the label? | Identity by LC-MS: measured mass against expected mass | Same vial as purity |
| How many mg are in the vial? | Content per vial: mg against a reference standard | Same vial |
| What share of the UV signal is the target peptide? | Purity by HPLC: % of peak area | Same vial |
| Which GLP-1 is it, if any? | Blind GLP-1 identification | Same vial |
| Do vials differ? | Vial-to-vial consistency: mean, range, RSD | One result per vial |
| How much endotoxin? | Endotoxin by LAL, in EU per mg and per vial | Usually its own vial |
| Can microbes grow from it? | Sterility (USP <71>, 14 days) | Its own unopened vials |
Each lab sets its own sample needs, so ask before you collect vials.
Do not drop content in mg. In one Reddit CJC-1295/ipamorelin group test, the organiser left net peptide content off the order. The group got percentages for the two peptides but no mg, so nobody could tell whether the vials were under-filled (r/PeptidePathways). Purity is a share of peak area. It says nothing about how much peptide the vial holds. Our guide to net peptide content explains why a “10 mg” vial rarely holds 10 mg of peptide.
Step 3: Choose the lab
Ask four questions before you pick:
- Will the seller accept this lab’s result? Many sellers honour refund claims only with results from certain labs. Buyers warn that a result from a lab the seller does not honour can mean paying for a second test (r/PeptideDiscussion). See which lab results vendors accept.
- Does identity come from mass spectrometry? ICH Q6A says identification by a single retention time alone is not specific (ICH Q6A).
- Can every member check the report at the lab’s own website? A screenshot in a chat is easy to edit.
- Is the raw data in the report? A chromatogram and a mass spectrum let members judge the numbers.
For a longer list, see how to choose a peptide testing lab.
Step 4: Collect the money and keep members anonymous
The common rule is simple: each share equals the lab fees divided by the number of members. Group Test Hub adds two rules worth copying. Members who donate a vial or pay for shipping get credit for it. Late joiners pay a full share, and that money goes back as credit to the original members (Group Test Hub). BatchGuild’s how-it-works page says credits are held until the test is fully funded, with a full refund if the group does not fill (BatchGuild).
Agree these rules in writing before anyone pays:
- the share formula, and what happens when a member drops out;
- whether a deposit is refundable;
- how vial donors and the shipper are credited;
- who holds the money until the lab is paid.
Members can use aliases. The lab only needs to deal with the organiser.
Step 5: Pick, photograph and number the vials
Organisers usually pick two to five vials at random (pepinstep). Take them from different kits, not from the top of one box. One group buys four kits and tests one vial from each (Peptide Critic Community). Members have reported kits that contained vials with no peptide at all, which one vial per kit has a better chance to catch (Peptide Critic Community).
Then:
- Keep every vial sealed and crimped.
- Photograph each vial with the lot number and the cap in the frame.
- Number the vials 1 to n, and note which kit each one came from.
- Think about hiding the label claim. Some buyers remove the mg from the label so the lab cannot anchor on it (r/PeptidePathways). A “label withheld” order does the same job without damaging the label.
For the trade-off between cost and evidence, see how many vials to send.
Step 6: Ship the vials to the lab
Pack the vials so they cannot rattle or break, put the lab’s sample form inside, and keep the tracking number. Share the tracking with the group. Our guide on how to send peptides for testing covers packing and paperwork.
Step 7: Share the result and check it
Release the report to all members at the same moment. An organiser who sees results first will be asked, fairly, whether anything was held back.
Post the report with its verification details. Each member should open it on the lab’s own website and check that the numbers, the lot and the vial photo match the copy in the chat. How to verify a peptide COA shows what to look for.
Agree in advance what a fail means. Group buys usually refund failed vials (Peptide Critic Community). Some groups send the same batch to two labs and compare; an HGH group of 21 to 22 members did exactly that (r/PeptideDiscussion). Keep one sealed vial back in case the seller asks for a re-test.
What HK Analytical does for group tests
We deal only with the organiser, and the report shows the name the organiser chooses. One order can cover any mix of identity (LC-MS), purity (HPLC), content per vial, blind GLP-1 identification, endotoxin (LAL), Sterility (USP <71>, 14 days) and vial-to-vial consistency across numbered vials. Results within days of receipt. Sterility (USP <71>, 14 days) is the one test that takes 14 days, because the method incubates for 14 days.
Each report carries its raw data, our own photo of the vial as received, and a statement of how the client relates to HK Analytical, inside the signed record. It is marked affiliated if any paying member has a link to us. Every member can check the report on /verify with the report ID and access key. See the example report and group tests.
Questions
What is a peptide group test?
It is one lab order paid for by several buyers of the same batch. An organiser collects each member's share, picks a few vials at random, sends them to the lab and shares the report. Every member gets the same result and should be able to check it at the lab's own website.
Where do peptide testing groups organise: Telegram, Discord or Reddit?
Mostly on Telegram and Discord. Reddit peptide communities help people find each other, but moderators there ban naming sellers and linking to outside platforms, so the planning moves to chat apps. Group Test Hub runs group tests with alias-only accounts, and BatchGuild holds members' credits until a test is fully funded.
How many vials should a peptide group test send?
One vial tells you about that vial. Organisers usually send two to five vials picked at random from different kits. Three or more let the lab report how much vials differ, as a mean, a range and a relative standard deviation. Safety tests such as endotoxin and sterility usually need their own extra vials.
How is the cost split in a peptide group test?
The usual rule is the lab fee divided by the number of members. Good groups also agree a refund rule if members drop out, credit for whoever donates vials or pays shipping, and whether late joiners pay a full share. Write these rules down before anyone pays.
Which tests should a peptide testing group order?
Identity by LC-MS, purity by HPLC and content in mg per vial, as a minimum. Content is the test groups forget most, and without it no one can tell whether vials are under-filled. Add vial-to-vial consistency, endotoxin or sterility if the group wants those answers and can send the extra vials.
